VINELink Coverage in Fairfax County
Virginia Jail VINE is the notification layer for the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and other participating local and regional jails. The official Virginia service is free, anonymous, and available around the clock. A person may search without registering. Registration is used when someone wants an alert about a selected local-jail record. Supported notices can include release, transfer, death, escape, and other custody changes.
VADOC state custody is different. Eligible crime victims use NAAVI for state-prison and state-supervision events. The official VINE and VADOC comparison says NAAVI is not connected to local Jail VINE. Registering for a Fairfax ADC alert does not carry over after a person enters VADOC custody. Public access to the VADOC locator also does not make every user eligible for NAAVI notifications.
Federal prisons are not covered by VINELink. Use the BOP Inmate Locator when a federal record is supported. Immigration custody uses the separate ICE locator. Those systems do not merge with a Fairfax Jail VINE registration.
Search a Fairfax Inmate on VINELink
Open VINELink and select Virginia. Search one person using the name or offender or booking number accepted by the interface. No registration is required for the lookup. Compare the identity and reporting facility before opening a record. A similar name is not enough, and a Fairfax ADC inmate ID is not the same as a seven-digit VADOC ID.
- Select Virginia. Confirm that the search is using the Virginia service rather than another state's records.
- Enter the best identifier. Use the full name or the supported offender or booking number. Try a known alias only when it belongs to the same person.
- Compare matches. Check the displayed identity details and reporting facility. Do not rely on result order.
- Open the matching record. Read the custody status and latest event exactly as shown.
- Confirm the event. For a Fairfax ADC record, call the jail and ask whether the change was community release or transfer.

Fairfax VINELink Release Information
Official material supports a limited field inventory. It does not support promising a literal “Out of Custody” label, a displayed release-date field, or a permanent archive. The live application did not provide a compliant, non-sensitive released-person example during research. Read the current interface rather than relying on a label seen in another county or state.

A VINE event is an alert, not the final release record. For Fairfax ADC, the Sheriff's correctional-status and release-date fields provide stronger local confirmation. A transfer should be followed into the receiving system. If the person moved into state responsibility, use the VADOC locator for current custody or supervision and the appropriate VADOC records route for durable release documents.
Register Fairfax VINELink Release Alerts
Registration begins from the matching local-jail record. Choose one or more channels that the current interface offers. Virginia materials support phone, email, text, TTY, and in-app notices. Keep each address or number current. Registration does not control when the jail transmits an update, and it does not replace direct contact when timing matters.
- Open the verified record. Confirm the person and Fairfax reporting facility before selecting notification.
- Choose a channel. Add an offered phone number, email address, text number, TTY, or in-app route.
- Create the phone PIN. The official Virginia VINE brochure says phone registration uses a four-digit personal identification number.
- Save the registration. Follow the current confirmation prompts and keep the contact details up to date.
- Acknowledge calls. Enter the PIN when an automated call arrives. Without acknowledgment, the system may retry during its retry period.

Local Jail VINE registration does not transfer to NAAVI. Eligible victims must use the separate VADOC process.
Confirm Fairfax VINELink Release Events
Start with the event label. “Transfer” means that custody moved, not that the person entered the community. A broader local notice may also correspond to a move into VADOC custody or another jail. The Fairfax ADC FAQ provides the official phone route. Call 703-246-2100, press 4, then press 1 for inmate information or 2 for release-date help. Ask for the recorded correctional status, release date, and destination.
If the Fairfax ADC says the person transferred, follow the named custodian. The VADOC locator covers people currently in state custody or active community supervision and updates daily. A state-supervision result can show that physical incarceration ended while probation or parole remains. A no-result does not prove discharge because spelling, data cadence, transfer timing, or the locator's scope may account for the miss.

Virginia State Release Alerts
VADOC's NAAVI system serves eligible crime victims for state-custody events. Notices can include an advanced release date, actual release date, transfer, death, name change, work release, escape or recapture, parole interview, and parole decision. VADOC describes an advanced release as an expected date that may change. Its release-date event means the person is no longer in VADOC custody, after which state notifications stop.

The state page should be used when VADOC holds the person or manages the qualifying notification record. It is not a Fairfax ADC alert screen.
NAAVI help is available at 1-800-560-4292. Public users who are not eligible for state victim notification may still use the VADOC locator for current custody or supervision information. The Virginia Parole Board's public reports can document a parole decision in an eligible case, but a grant is approval rather than proof of physical departure.

Fairfax Release Victim Services
Fairfax adds a local, channel-specific layer when an automated event is unclear. The ADC FAQ directs crime victims seeking release or movement information to Fairfax County Police Victim Services at 703-246-2141. This contact can help route a question tied to a Fairfax case and an ambiguous notice. It is not a general archive or a substitute for the Sheriff release record.
The local service matters because one automated phrase may not answer the practical question. A transfer to VADOC, another jail, or another lawful custodian is different from return to the community. Victim Services can support the notification context, while the Fairfax ADC provides the booking status and a receiving agency may confirm new custody.
Virginia Jail VINE itself is open to search and registration, but VADOC NAAVI has eligibility rules. The Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry is another separate system. It covers only people required by law to register and does not state the ADC release time. No registry result should be used as a substitute for a Fairfax release transaction.
Keep the contact roles distinct. VINE help can address registration and a forgotten PIN. Fairfax Police Victim Services can assist crime victims with local movement or release concerns. The ADC can confirm its own correctional-status and release-date information. VADOC Victim Services handles the separate state notification channel. Sending the same question to the correct holder reduces the chance that one agency's limited answer will be read as a complete custody history.
Fairfax VINELink Search Limits
VINELink depends on agency-fed data. A new event can take time to appear, contact information can fail, and the public result may not remain available for a known period. A missing result can reflect spelling, aliases, the wrong state, a transfer, a data delay, or a record outside local VINE coverage. The official Fairfax Sheriff ADC topics provide the local agency route when the search cannot resolve the event.
Do not treat VINE as a federal locator. BOP results can show a past release date and “RELEASED” location for federal custody, but that status ends BOP custody only. ICE operates its own current and limited recent-custody search. A federal or immigration miss does not prove the outcome of a Fairfax ADC booking.
The strongest conclusion uses at least two records: the Fairfax ADC correctional-status or release-date entry and the source that explains the next step. That second source may be a court order, VADOC record, destination jail, BOP result, ICE record, or a release document. The Fairfax Sheriff FOIA route supports a durable local request. Preserve the source's own wording and date.
A court order can explain the legal authority while still predating physical departure. Likewise, a VADOC community-supervision result can follow release from a prison without proving the exact ADC exit time. If dates conflict, compare what each timestamp measures before reporting an error. Overnight processing and daily system updates can place related events on different calendar dates.
